About the event

Nitin Singh is a globally emerging watercolor artist from India, known for his expressive plein air paintings that beautifully capture the spirit, atmosphere, and emotional energy of everyday life. Working with watercolor for more than a decade, Nitin has developed a distinctive artistic voice that blends observation, simplicity, and emotional connection through loose yet powerful brushwork.
He graduated in Fine Arts from Patna University in 2002 and has since dedicated his artistic journey to exploring watercolor as a medium of storytelling, travel, and human connection. His works have been displayed in several prestigious exhibitions around the world and have received recognition through multiple awards.
A passionate watercolor artist and teacher, Nitin is deeply committed to making watercolor approachable and inspiring for artists of all levels. Through his YouTube tutorials and online teaching platforms, he has helped countless beginners and watercolor enthusiasts discover the joy, freedom, and expressive possibilities of this medium.
His paintings are found in private collections across the world appreciated for their emotional depth, vibrant atmosphere, and authentic interpretation of life and culture.
Nitin loves traveling and painting the life around him - from bustling streets and local markets to quiet moments of human connection, overlooked moments and the poetry of architecture. Currently, he continues to travel across different countries, painting outdoors and teaching watercolor lovers through workshops, retreats, and live demonstrations, inspiring people to see art not just as a skill, but as a transformative life experience. For Nitin, watercolor is not simply a technique, but a way of engaging with the world—embracing spontaneity, imperfection, and the unexpected beauty that emerges when color, water, and intuition meet.
Workshop Overview
Imagine spending a beautiful week in Sicily painting outdoors among ancient streets, coastal villages, historic architecture, vineyards, and sweeping Mediterranean views. Surrounded by inspiring scenery, good conversation, flowing watercolors, and the simple joy of slowing down, this workshop invites you to look more closely at the world around you and translate those observations into paint.
Designed for artists and art lovers alike, the workshop goes beyond technique to explore how watercolor can become a tool for seeing, interpreting, and responding to everyday experiences. Under Nitin Singh's guidance, participants will develop a more personal approach to watercolor while discovering the culture, character, and rhythms of western Sicily.
Throughout the week, you will discover how to capture the spirit, energy, and emotional atmosphere of a place rather than getting lost in excessive details. You will learn how a few confident and expressive brush strokes can communicate the mood, light, rhythm, and life of a location in a powerful way. This approach helps artists paint with freedom, confidence, and emotional connection.
During the retreat, you will learn:

Fundamentals of plein air watercolor painting (CityScapes & Landscapes)
Observation and subject simplification techniques
Outdoor sketching & loose watercolor composition
Understanding light, shades, atmosphere, and color harmony
Expressive brush strokes and watercolor flow
Painting the “vibes” and energy of a location
Developing confidence to paint quickly and spontaneously
More than a technical workshop, this retreat is an invitation to experience Sicily through art. From ancient hilltop towns and bustling markets to vineyards, fishing harbors, and the shores of the Mediterranean, each day offers new opportunities to observe, sketch, paint, and engage with the island's rich history and vibrant culture. Painting outdoors encourages a slower pace, allowing artists to connect more deeply with their surroundings and capture the character and atmosphere of Sicily in watercolor.
By the end of the week, participants will have strengthened their watercolor skills while creating a visual journal of their Sicilian experience. Beyond the paintings themselves, they will leave with lasting memories, meaningful artistic insights, and a deeper appreciation for how travel, observation, and creativity can enrich both artistic practice and everyday life.
This retreat is open to beginners, intermediate artists, and experienced painters who wish to explore watercolor in a supportive environment while discovering one of the Mediterranean's most fascinating and inspiring islands.
What is Nitin's Approach to watercolors?
As a plein air watercolor artist, his teaching philosophy begins with one important foundation: observation. During this retreat, he will teach how to observe a subject, simplify its complexity, and create a clear mental picture before even touching the brush to paper. Throughout this retreat, he will focus on three essential foundations of artistic growth:
Learning to See
Learning to Feel
Learning to Express
Once this clarity emerges, painting becomes more meaningful, inspirational, and personal.
