ABOUT MARIO ROBINSON

Mario Andres Robinson was born in Altus, Oklahoma, where he resided with his family before relocating to New Jersey at the age of twelve. Robinson studied at the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. In 2014, Robinson was chosen to be a Brand Ambassador for Winsor and Newton art materials. He is the author of "Lessons in Realistic Watercolor," a comprehensive guide of the artist's watercolor techniques (Monacelli Press).

The work of Mario Andres Robinson fits squarely within the tradition of American painting. Robinson's finished works bear a close affinity to the masters of the realist tradition, Andrew Wyeth and Thomas Eakins. Containing few references to modern life, Robinson's work has a timeless and universal quality, and exhibits a distinct turn-of-the-century stylistic aesthetic. The images he chooses, which refer to a bygone era where solitude and reflection were abundant, also provoke frequent allusions to the paintings of Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper.

Mario Andres Robinson is an Exhibiting Artist Member (EAM) of The National Arts Club, an Artist Member of The Salmagundi Club and a Signature Member of The Pastel Society of America. His work has been featured several times in The Artist's Magazine, The Pastel Journal, Watercolor Magic, American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur and on the cover of American Artist magazine. In the February, 2006 issue of The Artist's Magazine, Mario was selected as one of the top 20 realist artists under the age of 40.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

This workshop will focus on accurately drawing and painting the figure. The live model will sustain a single pose for the duration of the session. This sustained focus on the model will allow students to slow down and render the subject in a comprehensive manner.

Students will execute a detailed drawing of the model and learn how to employ a monochromatic block-in to properly identify the values of the subject. The class will culminate with a full color application of color, using thin glaze layers of watercolor. The objective of the workshop is to demonstrate how a methodical approach increases the depth and sense of realism in paintings.   The instructor will give demonstrations throughout the day and provide personal instruction.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

For your convenience, all essential materials for the workshop are provided. In addition, you'll enjoy several excursions to gorgeous local sites during the week, where the group will apply lessons from the studio "en plein-air". Immerse yourself in watercolor painting, soaking in the region's radiant hues and vibrant atmosphere.

Refreshments are available throughout the workshop during the breaks, and delicious home-cooked Italian lunches and dinners provide the perfect setting for getting to know Mario and your fellow participants. Whether you're just starting out or have years of artistic experience, this workshop is for you.

For those bringing a Non-Participating Partner, we highly recommend that they book local excursions or tours while you are in the studio here! We recommend that Non-Participating Partners rent a car or arrange car services through Baglio Custera in advance so they can easily travel around on their own. Since there is no lunch service at Baglio Custera, Non-Participating Partners are encouraged to eat lunch at a local cafe.
