About the event

Harsh Agrawal

Plein Air Watercolor Painting in Sicily

Harsh Agrawal is a plein air landscape artist based in London and originally from Rairangpur, India. His artistic journey began in childhood, surrounded by the natural beauty of his home, where he first developed a passion for drawing and painting. That early connection to landscape eventually led him to formal studies in art and technology.

Before dedicating himself fully to painting, Harsh built a distinguished career in the entertainment industry, contributing to major international productions including Coco, Toy Story 4, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. His background brings together artistic sensitivity, technical precision, and a deep understanding of visual storytelling.

In 2022, Harsh made a significant career shift and moved to London to focus entirely on plein air watercolor painting. His practice is rooted in direct observation, working on location with transparent, luminous washes and a disciplined economy of mark. Through calibrated values, edge control, natural granulation, and sensitive color temperature, Harsh captures shifting light, atmosphere, and mood with clarity and restraint.

His paintings often have the feeling of time suspended — multiple moments compressed into a single image. Whether painting harbors, working waterfronts, stone streets, or urban vistas, Harsh’s work is unified by a rigorous attention to light, structure, and the quiet emotional presence of place.

Painting in Sicily with Harsh Agrawal

Join Harsh Agrawal for a focused week of plein air watercolor painting in western Sicily, where salt flats, windmills, ancient ruins, sea light, and historic towns offer an extraordinary range of subjects.

Each day will pair clear instruction with time on location. Mornings will include demonstrations, process notes, and preparation, while afternoons will take artists into the landscape — from the Stagnone Lagoon with its windmills and flamingo-dotted salt flats to the soft autumn light surrounding Sicily’s ancient Greek temples.

Working in the plein air approach that defines Harsh’s practice, participants will explore transparent washes, value structure, edge control, color temperature, and disciplined simplification. Sicily’s rich palette of ochres, siennas, cobalt blues, salt whites, and warm stone will provide the foundation for a deeper study of atmosphere and mood.

Instruction will be individualized and critique-driven, with clear daily goals and practical guidance for building a repeatable field-to-studio process. By the end of the week, participants will leave with resolved studies, stronger observational tools, and a more rigorous understanding of watercolor’s expressive structure.

Evenings are relaxed, with time for conversation, reference gathering, sunset aperitifs at the salt flats, walks in town, and shared meals in the Sicilian countryside.
